Anthony Pettis’s UFC career has often been one of peaks and valleys and Saturday was no different.

The former lightweight champion went the distance with Nate Diaz in their welterweight co-main event bout at UFC 241, but wound up losing a unanimous decision and exiting the arena with a broken foot that he suffered during the fight.

Pettis’s jiu-jitsu coach Daniel Wanderley confirmed the injury to MMA Fighting, sharing a picture taken at Honda Center, and Pettis also posted an image from the hospital to his Instagram.

It’s unclear exactly when the injury occurred though it appeared to be as early as round one. By round three, Pettis’s movement was noticeably limited. Given that the severity of the break is unknown, a timetable for Pettis’s recovery and return is pending.

Pettis is no stranger to in-fight injuries. Last October, his corner stopped his fight with Tony Ferguson at UFC 229 after the second round due to Pettis suffering a broken hand. He also received a conditional six-month suspension after that bout because of a nasal fracture.
