Colby Covington was quick to get the Twitter fingers going following the main event of UFC 228.
Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley successfully defended his title for the fourth straight time on Saturday with a second-round submission of Darren Till in the headliner at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Covington was prepared for the moment and he wrote a less-than-effusive message for Woodley, challenging “The Chosen One” to meet him at Madison Square Garden for the upcoming UFC 230 pay-per-view in New York City.
“You didn’t blow it,” Covington wrote. “Time for you to come see me in (Madison Square Garden). America’s Champ has another promise to keep.”
Covington (14-1) won an interim welterweight title at UFC 225 in June, but Dana White told BT Sport on Friday that he would be stripped of that belt as soon as the bell rang for Woodley vs. Till. However, the UFC president also said that Covington would be the de facto No. 1 contender regardless of who emerged victorious on Saturday.
Till didn’t escape Covington’s attention either. “Chaos” sent out another tweet calling Till a “can crushing doughboy” and accusing the 25-year-old of not being ready for “prime time”.
UFC 230, which takes place on Nov. 3, still has its main event slot open should the matchmakers be looking to grant Covington his request.
