Award-winning Filipino promoter Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde delivered yet another thrilling evening of competitive boxing last Saturday, May 4, at his Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque, Metro Manila, with the action battles televised live on ESPN5 Philippines.

In one of the show’s main features, rugged fighter Jun Blazo (12-6-3, 8 KO’s) of the Elorde Gym scored a unanimous decision win over tough-as-nails Benezer “The Bulldozer” Alolod (19-12-5, 7 KO’s) of Sana Rosa, Laguna, to become the new WBC Asian Silver Bantamweight champion.

The Leyte-born Jun Blazo, 26, bested the dangerous Alolod in a hard-fought battle put-together by veteran matchmaker Patrick Pepito Pante.    The third man for the WBC was Ferdinand Estrella.

In another exciting duel, tall and strong Japanese samurai Ryo Sagawa, 25, nailed a unanimous decision victory over lion heart warrior Al Toyogon (10-3-1, 6 KO’s) to earn the WBC Asia Silver Super Featherweight belt.

It was an exciting 12-round battle from the getgo that saw Toyogon landing and winning the first chapters of the war, just to yield control to the aggressive Sagawa who round after round seemed to be getting strong.  The referee for the WBC was the experienced Virgilio Garcia.

Negros Occidental southpaw Roldan Aldea (13-7-1, 6 KO’s) retained his GAB 135-pound strap by quickly crushing tough veteran Nathan Bolcio (14-16-3, 4 KO’s) of Benguet Province with one solid straight left to Bolcio’s solar plexus.     The official time of KO was 2:42 in round one.

In another collision, Cebuano-native and reigning GAB Super Lightweight Champion Jheritz Chavez (10-3-2, 6 KO’s) scored a stoppage triumph over Junar Adante (7-12-1, 4 KO’s) when Adante surrendered during the rest period of round three.    The win made Chavez retain his GAB belt.

delivered yet flyweights, unbeaten Filipino-American Kawelo Alcos (2-0-1, 1 KO) from The Friendly Isle of Molokai in the Aloha State of Hawaii and the more experienced, well-trained Negros Occidental warrior Alvin Tayo (2-7-2, 2 KO’s) fought to a 6-round unanimous draw.     Totals were 57-57 in the three scorecards.

Kawelo Alcos is managed by his father Alcos Senior and trained in Honolulu by popular Hawaiian boxing coach “The Ladykillah” Bobby Villaver.

Moreover, tough warriorsCris Alfante (16-7-1, 7 KO’s) of Zamboanga del Norte claimed the vacant Global Boxing Flyweight Title by rocking out in five chapters the experienced Geboi Mansalayao (12-29-5, 6 KO’s) of the Highland Boxing Team.   The referee was former GAB commissioner Mohammad Aquil Tamano.

Plus, young minimumweight Darwin Boyones (3-0, 1 KO) of the Dino Olivetti Gym decisioned in six rounds Ramcie Mondala (2-1, 1 KO) of Bato in Eastern Leyte.   

In addition, 105-pounder Melvin Mananquil (5-6-4, 1 KO) of Zalug in Zamboanga del Norte and his tough opponent Ronald Alapormina (4-3-2, 1 KO) of Labason, also in Zamboanga del Norte, fought to an eight-chapter split decision draw.

In another flyweight battle, unbeaten laser-focused Fernan Agencia (3-0, 2 KO’s) registered a 6-rounder unanimous decision win triumph Ruben Traza (4-14-4, 1 KO) born in Bacolod, Negros Occidental.   

Furthermore, 24-year-old undefeated southpaw featherweight Franklin Mendoza (3-0, 1 KO) of Kabasalan in Zamboanga Sibugay and Rodel from Lipa, Batangas, battled it out to a split decision draw.  

In a clash of light flyweights, Gringo Navarro (3-1-1, 2 KO’s) of Pasig City, Metro Manila, recorded a four-round majority decision win over debutant Anthony Trebucio (0-1, 0 KO’s) of Bulacan.

Fights are sanctioned by the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) with the supervision of Rafael Diokno and Antonio Comia.  

GAB physician was Dr. Jose Rolando Rivera.   Also on duty were GAB official Oliver Evangelista, Juanito De Guzman, Romulo Santiago, Janela Deauna, Raul Galit, Antonio Manigan and Consolacion Bardaje.

The ring announcer was Audrey Dones Gorriceta.
