21-year-old welterweight prospect Conor Benn recently underwent surgery on his hand, repairing a torn tendon suffered in his July 28 rematch win over Cedrick Peynaud.

Benn (13-0, 9 KO) says he suffered the injury in the first round of the fight, which went the 10-round distance and resulted in a wide unanimous decision for “The Destroyer.”

In December 2017, the two met for the first time, with Peynaud (6-6-3, 4 KO) dropping Benn two times in the opening round before Benn won a decision.

It was a rematch meant to get Benn a clearer, more decisive victory against Peynaud, and he achieved that goal. Benn also fought in April of this year, defeating Chris Truman by fourth round TKO.

It’s unknown how long Benn will be on the shelf, but there’s still a good chance he’ll fight again before the year is out, at least if there are no complications. And the big hope is that this won’t turn into a recurring hand issue for him.
