The big news on April Fool’s Day was the all-too-real announcement that UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson had suffered a freak injury, thus once again cancelling a scheduled bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov. Stepping in on short notice for what is the official lightweight title is none other than current featherweight champion Max Holloway, who himself had a title defense vs. Frankie Edgar scrapped last month when he got injured.
Reaction from around the MMA community has been widespread, and this now includes current lightweight champion Conor McGregor. Here is the tweet you’ve all been craving for.
Now that your uproarious laughter over McGregor’s sexual escapades has subsided, if/when the “official lightweight title” happens on Saturday night at UFC 223, this logically means that Conor McGregor will no longer be the champion. They haven’t officially stripped him, but after April 7th, supposedly his days as a champ are over, and he’d have to fight the Holloway-Khabib winner to get the belt back.
