Conor McGregor sends ghoulish Tweet to Mayweather

Conor McGregor sent out a horrible Tweet to Floyd Mayweather Jr. on New Year’s day, showing himself poised to kick the ‘Money Man’ in the face inside a boxing ring. The message that the 29-year-old UFC star McGregor had for Mayweather is the rules of their fight on August 26 saved him from being sent to the ”funeral home.”

McGregor’s post might help him save face with his MMA fans by letting them know that it would have been a different story had he been facing Mayweather inside the octagon rather than a boxing ring. McGregor couldn’t use his kicks, elbows or submission holds against Mayweather last August.

If McGregor could get Mayweather to agree to fight him in the octagon, all of those things would be fair game, and he’d probably quickly get him out of there. It might be entertaining for the MMA and boxing fans though if McGregor destroys Mayweather right away rather than carrying him as long as possible before knocking him out or getting him to submit.

The post from McGregor seems to be his way of letting Mayweather and his MMA fans know that he’s interested in facing him in the octagon under MMA rules rather than boxing. There’s been a lot of chirping going on about a McGregor vs. Mayweather rematch in the UFC.

A rematch between the 2 stars would make a huge amount of money for both of them, as well as for the UFC if it could get put together. McGregor is game for that fight, judging by his Tweet. Mayweather is a different story. He might need to be coaxed into take the fight. For the right amount of money, Mayweather might do it. However, McGregor isn’t helping matters by sending out scary looking Tweets with wording about “funeral homes.” It’s scary enough that McGregor is taking about hitting Mayweather’s cheek with his shin bone.

McGregor was stopped in the 10th round by Mayweather in their fight on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather fought like he was in slow motion for entire fight. In the eyes of a lot of boxing fans, Mayweather appeared to be letting McGregor stay in the fight. After the 4th round, Mayweather slowly walked McGregor down, hitting him with single pot shots and wearing him down. McGregor was exhausted and defenseless by the 10th. Referee Robert Byrd had to step in to stop the fight to keep McGregor from getting hurt, as he was too exhausted to defend himself.

McGregor still hasn’t resumed his UFC career. He hasn’t fought for that organization since November 2016, and it’s unclear if he’s ever going to continue fighting. One thing that might be a buzz-kill for McGregor is the smaller payday he’ll get fighting the guys from the UFC compared to the Mayweather fight. McGregor can make a massive amount of money if he can talk Mayweather into fighting him in the UFC for a rematch.
