Conor McGregor thinks BJ Penn should ‘soldier on’ with his career even after UFC 237 loss

Conor McGregor has a controversial opinion once again.

Shortly after 40-year-old BJ Penn lost his seventh-straight fight when he met Clay Guida at UFC 237, McGregor took to Twitter to express his desire to see his fellow former double champion keep on fighting.

In a reply to Dillon Danis whom, among many other professional fighters, feels like it’s time for Penn to hang up his gloves and call it a career, McGregor begged to differ, pointing out that BJ has yet to suffer a concussive KO loss.

He has got nothing to lose either. Soldier on soldier!
Zero concussive KOs on record. Some repetitive blows yes. But zero lights out.
There are fighters with way worse on the clock, way more mental issues, and are paraded to continue.

“Please BJ retire you got nothing to prove!” Danis wrote.

“He has got nothing to lose either,” McGregor replied. “Soldier on soldier! Zero concussive KOs on record. Some repetitive blows yes. But zero lights out.

“There are fighters with way worse on the clock, way more mental issues, and are paraded to continue. People in this game are fools.

“Blind sheep,” he concluded.

Before the loss to Guida, BJ also dropped fights to the likes of Ryan Hall, Dennis Siver, Yair Rodriguez, Frankie Edgar, Rory MacDonald and Nick Diaz, with his last win dating back all the way to November 2010, when he knocked out Matt Hughes. Seven straight losses is a UFC record, and Penn now has a sub.-500 mark in his UFC career.

As for McGregor, the 30-year-old hasn’t stepped into the Octagon ever since a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov back in October 2018. His last win happened in November 2016, when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to become the UFC lightweight champion.
