He’s already conquered MMA and been part of the biggest boxing match of all time, but could Conor McGregor finally be focusing his attention on the greatest combat sport of all?
Professional wrestling and WWE has inspired McGregor’s rise to fame since the very beginning of his fighting career, and one legendary superstar believes that the Irishman could make the move to WWE sooner rather than later.
‘Will Conor McGregor end up in the WWE? I think it’s a no-brainer. It might not be this year or the year after that because there’s a lot of money that you got to spend to get him in there,’ said Chris Jericho to Sports Illustrated.
‘But a guy that yappy, who knows the concept of cutting a wrestling promo … I think Conor will definitely end up there, it’s just a matter of when he wants to.’
After banking close to £80million following his recent fight with Floyd Mayweather, McGregor’s future options are limitless.
A return to UFC to defend his lightweight belt would provide more money than a WWE appearance or two, but might the two-time UFC champion fancy his chances of adding WWE gold to his already glistening list of accolades?
Although McGregor does not have the traditional physique of a wrestler, neither did Floyd Mayweather when he had a shockingly entertaining match with The Big Show at Wrestlemania in 2008.
McGregor has consistently shown during his career that he is one of the best talkers in all of sport, and he would relish the chance to interact with the likes of Enzo Amore who has called him out in recent months.
The 29-year-old has taken plenty of inspiration from wrestling, including walking like Vince McMahon and aping Ric Flair’s 1980s wardrobe, but despite calling WWE wrestlers ‘messed up pussies’ last August, he has since pledged his respect for ‘dons’ like Triple H and McMahon.
