“Contender” winner Brandon Adams confirms Golovkin, Charlo offers

Gennady Golovkin’s DAZN debut opponent remains a mystery, but we’ve gotten a second suspect to go with Kamil Szeremeta. WBA #3 Brandon Adams recently told Tha Boxing Voice that he has received offers from both Golovkin and interim WBC middleweight champ Jermall Charlo.

Adams (21-2, 13 KO) lost his two biggest fights to date, dropping a decision to Willie Monroe Jr. in 2014 and falling via TKO to John Thompson a year later in the finals of ESPN’s Boxcino super welterweight tournament. He returned to the ring three years later to compete on the rebooted Contender series, defeating Tyrone Brunson, Ievgen Khytrov, and Eric Walker before dominating Shane Mosley Jr. in the finals.

He’s about the same level of opponent as Szeremeta, I’d say; maybe a tad worse. By his own admission, Adams can compete at 154 pounds, and while Szeremeta is unproven, we’ve seen Adams against elite-ish competition and come away unimpressed.

The Charlo offer is particularly odd; fighting Golovkin makes sense rankings-wise, since GGG and Adams are just two spots apart, but the WBC doesn’t actually have Adams ranked in their top 15. It’s far, far from the strangest thing you’ll see today in boxing, but still worth a mention.
