After controversial finish, Abdul Razak Alhassan vs. Sabah Homasi rematch booked for UFC 219

UFC welterweights Abdul Razak Alhassan and Sabah Homasi will get a chance to run things back later this month.

Following the controversial finish to their UFC 218 undercard bout, Alhassan and Homasi have been booked for a quick turnaround rematch on Dec. 30 at UFC 219.

UFC president Dana White announced the news Saturday night.

“That fight has already been re-booked … for the end of the year card,” White said at UFC 218’s post-fight press conference. “(That’s) official.”

Alhassan (8-1) earned a polarizing first-round TKO win over Homasi (11-7) at UFC 218 due to an ill-timed stoppage by referee Herb Dean. After a wild, back-and-forth opening few minutes, Alhassan appeared to drop Homasi with a strike along the fence that instantly caused Dean to step in and stop the fight. Homasi immediately protested, and upon looking at instant replay, it appeared that Homasi was working towards a single-leg takedown attempt at the time of the stoppage.

Post-fight, both Alhassan and Homasi called for a rematch to be booked — and ultimately, they got their wish.

UFC 219 takes place Dec. 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by a women’s featherweight title fight between UFC champion Cris Cyborg and former bantamweight titleholder Holly Holm.
