Colby Covington feels it should be him — not Kamaru Usman — challenging Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title at UFC 235.

Woodley was originally expected to defend his strap against Covington, but the UFC decided to grant Usman with the title shot instead. Woodley vs. Usman will feature as the co-main event of the blockbuster UFC 235 pay-per-view on March 2, and ‘Chaos’ believes it will be an extremely one-sided affair.

Speaking to MMA Junkie in a recent interview, Covington predicted that ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ will look completely out of his element against Woodley and has no business being in the Octagon at UFC 235.

“Woodley’s going to smoke him,” Covington said. “Usman’s a scrub. He shouldn’t even be in that position. He hasn’t even beat anybody in the top 10 coming off a win. His last two wins, his only ranked wins, are against guys coming off losses, and I already took their soul and left them bloody and beaten, and they had no will to fight anymore. He’s got a padded record. He shouldn’t even be in this position, but he talked his way up, he sucked off some people at the UFC to get in this position and played that little role. So, good for him.”

Covington is obviously expecting to face the winner of Woodley vs. Usman, but the 30-year-old is also open to a fight against former title challenger Darren Till, who was submitted by Woodley at UFC 228. Covington, however, states that he is only willing to fight unless he is guaranteed ‘undisputed championship pay’.

UFC 235, which is expected to feature a headlining bout between Jon Jones and Anthony Smith, takes place on March 2nd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
