Crawford vs Khan: Arum hoping to make announcement soon

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is confident that we’re about to get an official announcement for a pay-per-view welterweight title fight between Terence Crawford and Amir Khan, telling ESPN that while it’s not done, things are heading in the right direction:

“Everything looks good. Hopefully, we’ll be able to make an announcement next week. It’s not done until it’s done, but I’m very optimistic.”

Arum also says that the pay-per-view will likely go for a price of $59.95, which is a big chunk of change but compared to Showtime’s recent pay-per-view offerings for $74.99, is something of a budget offering. Which is how these things work — prices get jacked up and jacked up and someone comes along and offers something for slightly less, and they look like a hero of the common fan.

Anyway, Crawford-Khan would take place on April 20, likely in New York, and ESPN would handle production for the pay-per-view. I doubt many serious boxing fans are going to be heavily invested in this fight, because the outcome seems inevitable, but it’s legitimately the biggest potential fight for Crawford right now. Even if Top Rank and PBC are willing to work together later for Crawford against one of PBC’s top welterweights, that wasn’t going to happen this spring, and Terence doesn’t want to sit around doing nothing, either.
