For Cris Cyborg’s comeback fight, she’s looking northward.

The former UFC featherweight queen has not had a fight booked since dropping her title to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232 last December, but the challenge of a new contender in her division has piqued her interest.

At UFC Rochester on Saturday, Octagon newcomer Felicia Spencer made a statement that she’s among the best in the world at 145 pounds when she needed less than a round to submit Megan Anderson. That improved Spencer’s record to 7-0, and post-fight she teased that there weren’t a lot of options at featherweight for her besides the names at the top of the division.

And if that statement wasn’t loud enough, the 28-year-old Canadian went on to call out Cyborg specifically in a backstage interview with TSN. That caught Cyborg’s attention — and she not only accepted, she suggested a date and location for their prospective matchup.

“July 27th, Edmonton, Canada,” Cyborg wrote, referring to the upcoming UFC 240 pay-per-view in Alberta that is currently scheduled to be headlined by men’s featherweight champion Max Holloway defending his title against Frankie Edgar.

Should the matchmakers pair up Cyborg and Spencer, it would only be Cyborg’s fourth non-title fight since August 2009.

Cyborg has won 20 of her last 21 fights (excluding one no contest).
