Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey dominated their respective divisions in an era where the UFC wasn’t so into booking superfights between champions from different divisions, and it’s highly unlikely that the female stars will ever meet each other inside the Octagon.
But what if the UFC featherweight champion jumped to the WWE world to face the former bantamweight queen in the pro-wrestling ring?
While she still waits for the UFC to decide her next move inside the Octagon, setting a date for her highly anticipated fight with 135-pound champion Amanda Nunes — who beat Rousey before in the UFC —, Cyborg spoke with MMA Fighting about “Rowdy’s” run in WWE.
”I watched her perform in WWE. She went a different path, right?” Cyborg said. “Because she lost and didn’t return to MMA, everybody saw she’s not (built) for MMA. If she was, she would have returned even with a loss, like every other athlete does. Losing is part of the sport.”
”She can do whatever she wants in WWE, they decide what happens beforehand,” she continued. “But I believe she’s happy. It’s a difficult job because she has to act and that’s not easy, for sure, but she’s doing well.”
Even though Cyborg says she never thought about the idea of jumping to the pro wrestling world — “I want to box. I want a real fight,” she says of her non-MMA plans, but the Brazilian striker says she’s always asked about the idea of facing Rousey in WWE.
”I think Ronda’s biggest fear was losing to me, so if we were to do it in WWE she would have to win,” Cyborg said. “I don’t have such a big ego, but if we were to put on a show for the fans, something like that, no problem. But I don’t see myself in it now.”
Rousey is one of WWE’s biggest stars today, and it would be shocking if the pro wrestling company would put her to lose to the Brazilian.
”She would only accept it that way,” Cyborg said. “I believe she would only do it that way. No problem. I know what would happen in a real fight.”
