CRISTOBAL CAPTURES PBF LIGHTWEIGHT CROWN

DAVAO CITY — Rosekie “Kapre” Cristobal stopped Alvin Makilling in the 6th round to capture the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) lightweight title last Friday night at the Waterfront Insular Hotel Pavilion here.
Cristobal made a good start but slowed down in the 4th and 5th rounds before coming strong in the 6th round.
It was Cristobal’s 13th win against two straight defeats from his previous two fights both held in Mexico.
“Dako akong pasalamat sa Ginoo ug sa akong manager na si Sir Jilson Sabang sa iyahang suporta at ug pagsalig,” said the 22-year old Cristobal, a native of Pres Roxas, North Cotabato.
Basang, on the other hand, thanked the MP Davao Gym under chief trainer Raides “Nonoy” Neri for training and helping Cristobal for the fight.
“We would like to thank Manny Pacquiao Stable for bringing out the fire power of our boxer. You are the best as always,” said Basang of MB Northstar Boxing Promotions.
“Let’s go back to training camp and prepare for the next championship fight,” said Basang.
Cristobal first bowed to Marcos Villasana Jr. by disqualification in their battle for the WBC Latino lightweight title last August 20, 2016 at the Centro de Convenciones, Acapulco, Guerrero in Mexico.
Villasana decked Cristobal in the fifth round. Cristobal also lost a point for a low blow in the eighth round, had two points deducted for what referee Christian Curiel ruled an intentional head butt in ninth. Cristobal was later disqualified for another low blow in the 10th.
In his fight in Mexico, Cristobal again lost by disqualification to Nery Saguilan last November 5 at the Polideportivo Centenario in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
Cristobal received a golden belt awarded by PBF president Lope “Jun” Sarreal Jr., who was assisted by boxing philanthropist Naris Singwangcha from Thailand and Games and Amusements Board chairman Abraham Kahlil Mitra.
