The World Boxing Council selected Nicaraguan Cristofer Rosales, as the fighter of the month for August, due to his excellent performance in the first defense of his WBC flyweight crown, on August 18, when he knocked out the two-time Olympic bronze medalist, Irish Paddy Barnes, in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Barnes was knocked out with a powerful right hook to the stomach, which sent him to the canvas and he was unable recover in the allowed time.
The Nicaraguan fighter won the flyweight title of the WBC in April, when he defeated the Japanese Daigo Higa.. as a visitor.
The WBC gave an honorable mention to the Minimumweight Champion, Thai Wanheng Menayothin, for his victory over the Filipino Pedro Taduran, which allowed him to defend the crown and improve his record to 51-0, with 18 knockouts.
