Cynthia Calvillo is wasting no time getting back into the Octagon.
The rising UFC women’s strawweight fighter will face Cortney Casey at UFC 233 on Jan. 26 in Anaheim, Calif., according to a report by the Orange County Register. Calvillo fought less than two weeks ago, beating Poliana Botelho at UFC Argentina by first-round submission.
Calvillo (7-1) was coming off a nine-month Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) suspension due to a positive test for cannabis heading into the Botelho fight. The California native and Team Alpha Male product missed weight by two pounds prior to the bout and said afterward that she wanted to quickly erase the criticisms that came with it. Calvillo, 31, returned to the rankings at No. 13 last week after getting as high as No. 6 before a December 2017 loss to Carla Esparza.
Casey (8-6) beat Angela Hill in her most recent fight, a split-decision victory in August. That win snapped a two-fight winning streak for the MMA Lab product, who is currently ranked No. 10 among strawweights. Casey, 31, has been involved in three straight split decisions.
UFC 233 is currently headlined by a UFC flyweight title fight between champion Henry Cejudo and bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw. Also on the card, Ben Askren will make his UFC debut against former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler.
