DACQUEL TO DEFEND OPBF TITLE IN JAPAN

ORIENTAL and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super flyweight champion Renie Dasalla Commander” Dacquel will make his first title-defense against Go Onaga on August 21 at the Prefectural Budokan in Naha, Okinawa, Japan.

The 25-year old Dacquel, a native of Manabo, Abra won the interim OPBF super flyweight crown via a 9th round technical knockout win against then undefeated Rathaphol Suwaonsoda last April 1 at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Gym in Bacolod City.

Dacquel currently has a record of 17 wins with 6 losses, 1 draw and 6 knockouts. In his first bid for the OPBF, Dacquel bowed to undefeated Japanese Takuma Inoue (5-0-0) last December 29 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, Japan.

Inoue is now slated to fight WBO Inter-Continental Flyweight champion Froilan Saludar on September 4 at the Sky Arena in Zama, Kanagawa, Japan.

Onaga, on the other hand, has 27 wins with 18 Kos and only two losses and two draws. The 36-year old southpaw has won all his last 10 fights with six of them by knockouts.

In his last fight, Onaga defeated Filipino Renoel Pael of Cebu by a unanimous decision last March 13 at the City Gym of Tomigusuku in Okinawa.

Onaga’s last taste of defeat was when he dropped a split decision to fellow countryman Teiru Kinoshita in their title-fight for the vacant Japanese super flyweight crown last March 27, 2012 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

The 12-round Dacquel-Onaga championship match will be graced by OPBF president Juan Ramon Guanzon and international promoter Brico Santig.
