Daddy Tennyson confident of keeping up slickster streak versus World Champ Tevin Farmer

Soon-to-be father James Tennyson [22(18)-2(2)] plans to hunt down the evasive Tevin Farmer before landing the killer world title-winning blow in Boston next month.

The Belfast boxer will take on the IBF super featherweight world champ on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders’ bout with Demetrius Andrade in Boston on October 20th and is well aware of the approach taken by the champ.

Southpaw Farmer [26(5)-4(2)-1] is a renowned hit and move specialist and won’t be there to be hit for every minute of every round when the pair clash at the home of the Boston Celtics and Bruins on a Matchroom America card.

In winning the title, the Philly slickster widely outpointed Aussie veteran Billy Dib and another boxer versus puncher affair is expected here.

It’s a style noted puncher Tennyson has faced previously and one he has triumphed against via knockout – first to claim the Irish title versus Declan Geraghty before scoring a huge European and Commonwealth title win over Martin Ward.

It’s also an approach ‘The Assassin’, whose last five wins have come by stoppage, believes he can overcome again.

“It will be a tough fight and Farmer is a good boxer. But in my last few fights we have had guys who fight in the style that Farmer fights,” noted Tennyson.

“He is a tricky southpaw so I will have to hunt him down and get the job done.”

“I am prepared to go the full 12 rounds but hopefully I can hunt him down and get the stoppage,” added the fighter that many feel is Ireland’s pound-for-pound hardest hitter.

Indeed, in terms of active championship level Irish fighters, Tennyson’s knockout ratio is second only to Jason Quigley, and the MHD puncher’s power, size, and relentless approach have all been noted in the build-up as reasons for conidence in the 9/4 underdog.

In addition to these gifts and talents, hunger is another potential aspect.

It is the biggest fight of 25-year-old Tennyson’s life but there is even more motivation than usual to secure a win with partner Carli pregnant with the couple’s first child.

The Poleglass puncher described how “I have a baby on the way so I want to win this World title so that I can have a better life for the baby.”

“I have been boxing from a very young age and I have always wanted to fight for a World title. This is a huge opportunity and it is one I want to grasp.

“I know it will not be easy but I am going there to be win that World title.”
