Dana White: GSP is looking for one off big money fights, but we’re not interested in that

When Georges St-Pierre expressed interest in facing the winner of the fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor at UFC 229, UFC president Dana White immediately shut it down. The brash company executive, however, was more open to the idea of a “GSP” return at UFC 231.

In a recent interview with the BBC, White once again pulled the plug on St-Pierre’s plans. According to him, he would rather have the 37-year-old Canadian fighter back at his original weight class at welterweight.

“I’m interested in Georges St-Pierre coming back at 170 [pounds],” White said (transcript viaMMANYTT). “Not at 155 pounds.”

“He was the 170-pound champion, he moved up to 185 pounds to take on Michael Bisping and put in his agreement that he would absolutely defend the title at 185 and then just dumped the title,” he explained. “I’m not interested.”

“Georges St-Pierre is looking for one off fights where he can make a lot of money, which it’s smart, that’s what he should do but we’re not interested in that.”

After four years of absence, St-Pierre returned at UFC 217 last November where he defeated Michael Bisping to become the UFC middleweight champion. He was, however, forced to give up the belt due to his ulcerative colitis condition that has once again forced him in the sidelines.

White himself is also uncertain if St-Pierre would be back in action.

“I don’t know. He’s not too excited about fighting or defending his title or anything like that,” White said. “I don’t know if he’ll ever fight again.”

If St-Pierre does return at UFC 231 as White plans for him, it will take place on December 8th in Toronto.
