Add another one to the pile of conflicting obligations.

The WBA has ruled that the April 28th bout between former champion Daniel Jacobs and unbeaten Maciej Sulecki will serve as a final eliminator for the “Super” middleweight title currently in Gennady Golovkin’s hands, putting the winner in line for a shot at either Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez.

Michael Benson has helpfully collected the current list of mandatories.

🔽 Canelo-GGG 2 mandatories in waiting:

1⃣ Sergiy Derevyanchenko (IBF)
2⃣ Jermall Charlo/Hugo Centeno Jr (WBC)
3⃣ Daniel Jacobs/Maciej Sulecki (WBA)

Derevyanchenko currently has seniority, having earned his status with a beatdown of Tureano Johnson last August. Charlo and Centeno fight for the interim title on April 21st, although the fight was booked for March 3rd before Centeno hurt his rib.

Unless Sulecki can pull the upset, I’d put money on Jacobs being next for either Golovkin or Canelo barring a Billy Joe Saunders unifier. Of course, Derevyanchenko could jump the line if the May 5th blockbuster winds up falling apart and he steps in on short notice.

The Jacobs-Sulecki card will also feature a heavyweight tilt between Jarrell Miller and Johann Duhaupas, plus a women’s lightweight unifier between Katie Taylor and Victoria Noelia Bustos.
