Danny Garcia to fight Thurman in rematch says Angel G

By Eric Baldwin: After thinking it over, Angel Garcia says Danny Garcia (31-1, 19 KOs) will be fighting WBA/WBC welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (28-0, 22 KOs) in a rematch. Angel wants Danny to avenge his 12 round split decision loss from last Saturday night. He thinks that Danny will whip Thurman’s backside in the rematch.

This is a different stance for Angel, who spoke of wanting Garcia to hang up his gloves and retire from boxing after the fight. Angel said that he was disgusted with the scoring of the fight, because he felt that Danny had been robbed of a decision. The boxing public didn’t agree with Angel. They overwhelmingly felt that Thurman deserve the decision, but it was fight that still wasn’t see as a great one.

Angel took issue with the constant movement that Thurman used in the fight last Saturday. Angel said Thurman was running from Garcia. A lot of boxing fans felt the same way. The ones that didn’t call it running were not entirely impressed with the excitement or lack thereof in the fight. There wasn’t much action after the 4th round, as both fighters failed to do enough to make it an exciting fight. The crowd booed frequently at the lack of action in the fight. Thurman didn’t seem bothered by the booing, as he continued to circle the ring much of the time.
The Thurman-Garcia fight was scored 116-112, 115-113 for Thurman, and 115-113 for Garcia.

Thurman, 28, will likely take the rematch with Garcia, as he seemed less than excited when he was twice asked by the boxing media if he’d like to fight the winner of the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Kell Brook fight. Thurman started to stammer when asked that question, and it was obvious that he’s not interested. Thurman did seem interested in the Garcia rematch. He clearly feels confident he can win that fight a second time. It’s a fight that will give Thurman a big payday as well.

“The judges, we had a blind seal in the house. So we had an old seal,” said trainer Angel Garcia about the three judges that worked the Thurman-Garcia fight last Saturday. “We have a rematch with ponytail [Thurman]. To me, Danny won the fight. They gave it to ponytail. It’s cool, but we’re getting a rematch. We’re going to tear his [expletive] apart. He lost. He ran the whole night,” said Angel about Thurman.

This is a fight that probably doesn’t need a rematch. Thurman clearly won the fight, and a rematch isn’t going to likely be any different. It might be better for boxing if Thurman were to move on and face the winner of the Brook-Spence fight. At least that would be new blood. The fans wouldn’t have to see a second helping of the Thurman-Garcia fight. The two of them are bad with one another.

Garcia is a stationary fighter who waits a lot, and Thurman is an in and out circle fighter. Thurman needs opponents that are good at cutting off the ring on him like Spence or Shawn Porter. Garcia is just going to stand in the middle of the ring for long stretches and wait for Thurman to come to him rather than him going after him,
