Former IBO World super flyweight champion Edrin “The Sting” Dapudong of M’lang will fight for the first time in Japan on September 3 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
The 36-year-old Dapudong will fight Ryo Akaho of Japan.
He will leave on September 1 together with trainer Rolando “Smooth Operator” Magbanua, a former WBO Oriental Bantam interim.
“Right now I’m 124 pounds but I will be fighting for featherweight (122 lbs.),” said Dapudong.
He is still training at the MP Davao Gym in Toril for almost two months. His sparring partners are Ariel Antimaro (3-1-0, 1KO) and Kim Bryan Cabrillos (6-3-0, 1KO).
“It’s my first time to fight in Japan. I wish for a good fight,” said Dapudong.
Dapudong, who is now with 35 wins, 7 loses, 1 draw with 21 knockouts, made a successful comeback this year.
He won by a unanimous decision against Mark Glen Antaran of Sarangani last February 6 in Digos City.
Akaho, on the other hand, is a former WBO International bantamweight and Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation super flyweight champion.
He recently won by a UD against Mugicha Nakagawa last April 2 in Korakuen Hall.
The 36-year-old Akaho is now 38 wins, 2 loses, 2 draws with 25 knockouts.
