DAVAO PUGS ADVANCE TO QUARTER FINALS

GEN. SANTOS CITY (Dec. 16) – All fighters from Davao City easily advanced into the quarter finals of the Mindanao leg in the on-going PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup which started today at the Robinsons Place in General Santos City.
“Puro kasi sila nag bye after the draw of lots today,” said supervising technical supervisor Rogelio Fortaleza of the organizing Philippine Sports Commission.
Already seeing action in the Quarter Finals for Davao City on February 10 and 11 in Kidapawan City are Emmanuel Canubas (jr. boys 44-46 kg.), Reymond Albupera (jr. boys light fly 48 kg.), Cyril Ivan Revilla (jr. boys 50 kg.), John Ednoel Prevendido (Youth boys light flyweight 46-49 kg.), Curt Nnelgy Manigsasa (Youth boys flyweight 52 kg.), Joshua Padual (Youth boys 56 kg.) and John Alvin Gonzales (youth boys lightweight 60 kg.).
Only three bouts were being held as of press time in the opening day. James Errol Gahaton of Brgy. Labangal-Gensan was fighting Kim Jade Sagrado in the Jr. boys 44-46 kg. followed by Ben John Rey Yagahon against Alvin John Sumodalayon in the jr. boys flyweight 48 kg.
The last fight pits Alfred Gomez of Malungon against Jayson Brillo of Sultan Kudarat (jr. boys flyweight 48 kg.).
Slated today (Dec. 17) are six bouts; Ariel Almamento vs. Ferdinand Melegrito (Youth 46-49 kg.), Christian Lanutan vs. Jake Sone Saludar (46-49 kg.), Arceboy Barangan vs. Carl Joshua Rafael (52 kg.), John Ignatius Macas vs. Nino Kongkong (52 kg.), Nichole Jhon Lucas vs. Criz Sander Laurente (52 kg.) and Zaldy Recopuerto vs. Remark Brillo (56 kg.).
The winners will advance into the Semi-finals on March 3 in Cagayan de Oro Ciity while the Mindanao Finals is on March 24 in Davao City. (LITO DELOS REYES)
