David Allen: Lucas Browne has ‘zero chance’ of knocking me out

David Allen will be a key part of Matchroom’s April 20 show from O2 Arena, featuring a heavyweight doubleheader which will see Dereck Chisora face Senad Gashi, and Allen take on former WBA “world” titleholder Lucas Browne.

Allen (16-4-2, 13 KO) is a likable fighter, a charismatic and funny guy who talks a great game, and a more honest game than most pro fighters would ever dare.

The 26-year-old “White Rhino” is back at it, saying that the veteran Browne (28-1, 24 KO) has “zero chance” of scoring a KO win:

“People say ‘you haven’t got a good defense’, I’ve got a great defense, I see every shot coming. Even the ones I take clean in the face, I know they’re coming. You’re not going to knock me out. Lucas Browne, if he’s planning on beating me with power, he might as well stay in Australia, because there’s zero chance of me getting knocked out.”

It’s worth noting that Allen has been stopped twice, by Luis Ortiz in 2016 and Tony Yoka in 2018, but they were both TKOs, so maybe that’s splitting hairs.

Right now, Allen has won three straight fights, all inside the distance, but the opponents were marginal talents.

But that’s better than the 39-year-old Browne is coming in, momentum-wise. In March 2018, Browne was knocked clean out by Dereck Chisora. No big shame in that, and Browne did then beat a couple sub-.500 fighters by KO. But in his last outing on March 2, he was dropped in the second round by Kamil Sokolowski, who came in with a record of 6-14-2, and Browne barely edged out a 57-56 win on the referee’s scorecard. Not exactly encouraging, even if Sokolowski is a tougher fighter than his record might indicate.
