David Haye: If I lose to Bellew again, I’ve got no business carrying on

David Haye knows that his career is on the line this Saturday against Tony Bellew, when the two rematch in a fight from last year, where Bellew won, but Haye has the ability to largely blame the loss on an Achilles injury — and, as he’s admitted, too, not going in with the right mindset.

However that fight shook out, though, they’re doing it again, and Haye (28-3, 26 KO) knows he has to be at his best against Bellew (29-2-1, 19 KO). He says if he loses to Bellew, his career as a heavyweight fighter should be over.

“This is it for me. There’s no tomorrow, there’s no May 6. This is it,” he said at a presser. “I have to perform and have to perform at my best. I have that same feeling going into all my fights, against Dereck Chisora, against Klitschko, against Valuev. If I don’t perform to my best, I get knocked out, I lose, that’s how it works.

“That’s how it’s been with me being the small guy in the fight. This time around, not so much, it’s not so much I’m afraid of getting knocked out, it’s just losing. Because if I lose this fight against a cruiserweight, I’ve got no business carrying on in the heavyweight division.”
