As David Haye readies for his rescheduled May 5th rematch with Tony Bellew, the heavyweight stands firm in his belief that he’ll be completely healthy for the fight. The rematch, originally slated for this past December, had to be put off after Haye suffered a torn biceps, which he describes to Sky Sports as being a ‘freak accident.’

“What happened last time to postpone the fight was a freak accident, like getting hit by a car, there’s nothing you can do. Unfortunately, it happened and thankfully the rematch got rescheduled.

“When the bell rings, you’ll see the best of me. People are worried about my body falling apart but hopefully that’s a thing of the past and you’ll see a very healthy athlete on May 5.”

Haye also mentions that he’s doing everything in his power to ensure that he’s not only as good as he was before the injury, but even better — also saying he’s now back to using his injured arm without problems.

The 37-year-old suffered an Achilles injury in his first bout with Bellew in March 2017, rendering him immobile while Bellew took full advantage to force a stoppage win. Obviously that hasn’t sat particularly well with Haye, and he’ll look for redemption this spring.
