Well, it wasn’t the fight fans were hoping for against Curtis Stevens, but David Lemieux (35-3, 32 KOs) will make his ring return on Oct. 22nd at Montreal’s Bell Centre where he’ll take onArgentina’s Cristian Fabian Rios (21-7-3, 6 KOs). Camille Estephan of Eye of the Tiger tells ESPN that the fight will be a scheduled 10-rounder at a 165lb catch weight.
HBO had tried to schedule Lemieux for a Sept. 24th date but Estephan said: “Our initial plans had to be changed after David required surgery on his right knee. The date of Sept. 24 was the initial date. We then tried to match the dates available at the Bell Centre with a date on HBO and unfortunately we could not set the time that is right for both to occur prior to much later in the year, so David will be fighting on Oct. 22.”
If everything goes off without a hitch and Lemieux emerges from the fight unscathed, as expected, Estephan plans to get Lemieux a more notable fight in December, before the year ends
