World Boxing News reports that the super middleweight showdown between James DeGale and Chris Eubank Jr., originally planned for the beginning of December, has been pushed back to January. The Daily Star’s Chris McKenna tabs January 12th as a potential date for the fight, which will still air on ITV Box Office and take place in London.
It’s honestly not a bad decision; as McKenna mentions, December already has three major pay-per-views scheduled: Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury (Dec. 1st), Dillian Whyte vs. Dereck Chisora II (Dec. 22nd), and Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton (also on the 22nd). The month is also choked with top-tier matchups even beyond those three cards, so I’d imagine this would stand out quite a bit more in January.
In terms of pure entertainment value, this fight should hold its own. Eubank Jr. (27-2, 21 KO) throws heat from bell to bell, and DeGale (25-2-1, 15 KO) been in some fun wars with the likes of Rogelio Medina and Badou Jack. It’s the kind of intriguing battle that can only come from two similarly talented fighters with gaping flaws in their games.
