Dejan Zlaticanin-Mikey Garcia possible for Oct. 15th

Lou DiBella says there’s a chance Dejan Zlaticanin makes his first title defense against Mikey Garcia this fall.

Promoters Lou DiBella and Frank Warren have been in discussions to stage a lightweight title unification match between WBC titlist Dejan Zlaticanin and WBO strapholder Terry Flanagan this fall. But DiBella tells ESPN that it’s also possible that his fighter Zlaticanin (22-0, 15 KOs) will make the first defense of his WBC title against Mikey Garcia (35-0, 29 KOs), who has recently reemerged from the abyss of promotional turmoil.

A prospective Zlaticanin-Garcia fight could be apart of an October 15th Showtime card which would feature welterweights Danny Garcia vs. Andre Berto, although that fight has yet to be made official at this time.

“My guy against Garcia would be fireworks,” DiBella said. “We would love to do either fight, with Garcia or Flanagan.”

DiBella continues to say that if the Zlaticanin-Garcia fight comes together, another one of his fighters in Jose Pedraza (22-0, 12 KOs) could move up to lightweight to challenge Terry Flanagan (31-0, 12 KOs) instead. Flanagan currently has a mandatory challenger for his WBO belt in Felix Verdejo, but that fight has been put on the backburner while Verdejo recovers from a motorcycle accident.

“Pedraza wants to move up and would go to England for an opportunity against Flanagan, so Frank and I are talking about that also,” DiBella said. “Everything is on the table and being discussed but nothing is done yet.”

Oh, the possibilities…
