Dennis Bermudez is looking to have better luck at 155 pounds.
Hoping to avoid a fifth straight loss, Bermudez is set to make his UFC lightweight debut on Jan. 19 when he fights Te Edwards at UFC on ESPN+ at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, per Newsday.
MMA Fighting confirmed Bermudez’s division change with sources following an initial report by FloCombat.
Since finishing as a finalist on season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter back in December 2011, Bermudez (16-9) has compiled a 9-7 in the UFC’s 145-pound division (including one catchweight bout). He won seven straight fights from May 2012 to July 2014, but has lost six of his last eight fights. His last three outings against Rick Glenn, Andre Fili, and Darren Elkins have all ended in split calls going the other way.
Edwards (6-2) will be hoping for a second chance at a first impression after stumbling out of the gates at UFC Moncton in October. Coming off of a contract-winning performance on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, Edwards was defeated in his UFC debut via second-round TKO by fellow Octagon newcomer Don Madge.
