Deontay Wilder says Tyson Fury fight to be announced next week in Las Vegas

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder says an official announcement will be made next week in Las Vegas for his fight against Tyson Fury. Wilder says he’ll KO Fury (27-0, 19 KOs) by the 6th round after he solves his awkward fighting style.

According to Wilder, after he thrashes Fury, he’ll be the A-side for a fight against IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Wilder says Joshua’s team wasn’t even willing to give him a 40 percent cut for a fight against him. Wilder believes that Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn’s father Barry Hearn didn’t want Joshua to fight him because their whole thing is to make money and “milk’ the public in winnable fights.

Wilder says it was just a “marketing scam” for Joshua and Hearn to talk up a fight against him. In other words, it was a move by Joshua and his Team to make the boxing public think that a fight between him and Wilder would take place in order to get the fans to show interest in his mismatches against Alexander Povetkin, Eric Molina, Joseph Parker and Carlos Takam.

”I think we’re going to have an official announcement in Las Vegas next week,” Wilder said to Boxingtalk. ”They know they didn’t want the fight in the first place… You don’t put me in the plans when you’re trying to milk the public. . All of their interest to fight me was nothing but a marketing scam and now they’ve come out and admitted it. It’s obvious they don’t want the fight.”

So there it is. Wilder vs. Fury will be announced next week in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s a perfect time to announce the Wilder-Fury fight, because there’s going to be massive attention being paid on boxing by the fans that are getting ready to see the rematch between Saul Canelo Alvarez and IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin for their fight on September 15 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I hate to say it but I have to agree with Wilder’s opinion on Joshua never having any true interest in facing him. As Wilder mentioned, he thinks Joshua is only focused on fighting guys that he can beat in order to make money. Wilder doubts whether the fight will ever happen, but he doesn’t career. He says the boxing public in the UK is catching on to what Joshua is doing by facing weaker opposition and just trying to make money while dodging the tougher fighters.

Wilder says he rates the top heavyweights in this order:

1. Deontay Wilder

2. Luis Ortiz

3. Tyson Fury

Wilder, 6’7”, doesn’t say where Joshua fits in with his heavyweight ratings, but one must assume that he views him as #4. I mean, it’s hard to see Joshua rated behind the likes of Dillian Whyte, Alexander Povetkin, Kurat Pulev and Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller right now. Depending on how Joshua looks in his fight against 39-year-old Povetkin on September 22, he could go up or down in the heavyweight rankings. Right now, there’s a huge question mark about how good Joshua is because he’s fought only good heavyweight during his career in facing the washed up 41-year-old Wladimir Klitschko, and he almost lost to him.

Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs) says his fight with the 6’9” Fury is going to cause the boxing public to ignore Joshua’s fight against Povetkin this month on September 22. The fans want to see Wilder vs. Fury, and they’re not nearly as interested in Joshua’s fight against the smaller, older Povetkin. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn rates Povetkin as the number #3 heavyweight in the division, but Wilder doesn’t agree with that rating. Perhaps at one time Povetkin might have been viewed as the number 3 heavyweight in the division, but he’s looked awful in his last three fights against David Price, Christian Hammer and Andriy Rudenko.
