Derek Brunson vs. Uriah Hall co-headlines UFC Fight Night: Johnson vs. Poirier

David Dermer-USA TODAY Sports

In addition to the newly announced September 17th UFC Fight Night main event between Michael Johnson and Dustin Poirier, middleweights Uriah Hall and Derek Brunson will serve as the co-main event in Hidalgo, Texas.

UFC fans interested in heading to State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas on September 17th will be happy to know that a slew of fights have been announced for the FS1-televised show. Earlier on Monday, Michael Johnsonrevealed that he will be fighting Dustin Poirier in the main event, and shortly thereafter, the UFC issued a press release confirming Uriah Hall vs. Derek Brunson as the evening’s co-headliner.

Hall (12-6) had an incredibly busy 2015 schedule, competing a whopping 5 times, including a pair of short-notice appearances. He began last year with a stoppage win over Ron Stallings, but dropped a split decision to Rafael Natal. After knocking out Oluwale Bamgbose in August, Hall pulled off a shocking spinning kick and flying knee KO ofGegard Mousasi in September. Having beaten Mousasi on short notice, he aimed for a repeat outcome against Robert Whittaker at UFC 193, but lost a unanimous decision to Robert Whittaker. Hall was scheduled to fight Anderson Silva at UFC 198, but Silva pulled out with a gall bladder problem the week of the fight, and Hall was removed from the event.

Brunson (15-3) has won his last 4, with only Yoel Romero defeating him in his seven-fight UFC career. He’s scored 1st round TKO finishes of his last 3 opponents, including his vicious destruction of Roan Carneiro in Pittsburgh back in February. Brunson was slated to fight Gegard Mousasi on the UFC 200 Fight Pass preliminary card, but had to withdraw due to vision problems. Hall is ranked #9 in the UFC’s middleweight top 15 list, while Brunson is right behind him at #10.

Also confirmed for the card:

Evan Dunham vs. Abel Trujillo
Manny Gamburyan vs. Alejandro Perez
Gabriel Benitez vs. Sam Sicilia
Joey Gomez vs. Jose Quinonez
Maximo Blanco vs. Chas Skelly

UFC Fight Night: Johnson vs. Poirier airs live on Fox Sports 1 on Saturday, September 17th. The main card kicks off at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT.
