Bivol, 26, was hitting Agnew at will in the corner when the referee stepped and stopped the one-sided contest. Agnew’s right eye was swollen, and he was just covering up and not even trying to fight.

Agnew’s right eye was clearly injured, and there was no way that the referee could have let the fight continue.

Earlier in the contest, Bivol had dropped the 30-year-old Agnew with a left hook to the jaw followed by a left-right combination. After that knockdown, Agnew covered up well in the corner to make it out of the round.

In round 2, Bivol caught Agnew with some monstrous power shots to the head. Agnew moved around the ring against the ropes in fighting in survival mode. By the end of the end of the round, Agnew’s right eye was starting to swell.

Bivol caught Agnew against the ropes in the 3rd round, and flurried on him with big shots. It was surprising that the referee didn’t stop the fight in the round, as he was taking a ton of punishment.
The win was an impressive one for the 26-year-old Russian Bivol, who showed that he could be on his way to a world title in the near future.

Agnew had been stopped by former WBA light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev by a 7th round TKO in 2014. Agnew gave Kovalev some problems before being stopped in the 7th. Bivol dealt with Agnew in a much easier fashion than Kovalev did. Bivol fought a lot better against Agnew than Kovalev.

The win puts Bivol on the map in the light heavyweight division, and shows that he’s a threat to all the top fighters in the division.

In other results on the card, undefeated middleweight contender Luis Arias (18-0, 9 KO) stopped Russian Arif Magomedov (18-, 11 KOs) in the 5th round. Arias dropped the 24-year-old Magomedov with 2 chopping right hands to the head. Megomedov got back up and was taking punishment when his corner threw in the towel. Referee Robert Byrd then halted the fight.

The official time of the stoppage was at 1:16 of round 5. It was a pretty impressive performance from the 27-year-old Arias, who dominated Magomedov from start to finish in winning a one-sided fight. Arias showed that he’s got the talent to give anyone in the division problems.
