Not only is The Korean Zombie out of UFC 214, so is The Korean Superboy.
More bad news for UFC 214, as exciting Korean featherweight prospect Doo Ho Choi has been pulled from the card due to a serious back injury that is expected to keep him sidelined until late October. Robin Black reported the news on Wednesday. Choi was scheduled to fight Andre Fili on the July 29th event in Anaheim, California.
This story follows the removal of Chan Sung Jung from his fight against Ricardo Lamas on the same card, with “The Korean Zombie” expected to be out long-term due to a ruptured ACL and MCL.
Choi (14-2) hasn’t fought since his incredible brawl with Cub Swanson at UFC 206, which he lost by unanimous decision. It was his first defeat inside the Octagon after a 3-0 start, with all of his victories coming by first-round knockout. “The Korean Superboy” has won eleven fights by KO or TKO and is currently #13 in the UFC’s official featherweight rankings.
Obviously this means Fili is currently without an opponent, but with the event more than a month away, odds are in his favor that he’ll remain on the card against a replacement fighter. Here’s how Andre reacted on Twitter.
Choi is out. Doesn’t matter. I’m only focused on what I can control. I’ll be ready July 29th to beat someone up.
UFC 214 is headlined by a light heavyweight title rematch between champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones.
