FILIPINO boxer Leonardo “Toto” Doronio of Iloilo City is facing the undefeated Russian Pavel Malikov for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver lightweight title on July 11 at the DIVS, Ekaterinburg in Russia.
The 30-year old Malikov is unbeaten with seven straight wins with only one knockout while Doronio has 15 wins, 12 loses and 3 draws.
The 27-year old Doronio is being accompanied by his manager Art Monis.
“Naka handa akong lumaban sa Russian (I’m ready to fight the Russian),” said Doronio in a text message.
He last won against Nigerian Taiwo Ali by a 3rd round knockout held November 13 at the Bangkok University, Thonburi Campus in Bangkok, Thailand.
Doronio, however, dropped a split decision to Nery Saguilan in their battle for the WBC Latino lightweight crown last January 30 at the Hotel Ixtapa Azul in Guerrero, Mexico.
Malikov, on the other hand, recently captured the Russia lightweight title via a split decision against Nikolay Buzolin last February 22 at the Iceberg Sports Palace.
