World Boxing Council light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev of Russia will return to his adopted city after a five-year absence, for his next fight.
The mandatory match between Beterbiev and American Marcus Browne will headline a card presented by Top Rank on December 17th from the Bell Center in Montreal with live broadcast on ESPN.
Eight of Beterbiev’s first 11 professional fights took place in Montreal or Quebec City.
The 2012 Olympian moved to Montreal from Russia after signing with the Yvon Michel Group, a prominent promoter in the province of Quebec.
After agreeing to a joint promotion deal with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc., in early 2019, Beterbiev has fought in Stockton, California, Philadelphia and Moscow. His previous two fights took place in Fresno, California and Chicago.
Top Rank won a WBC auction on September 28 to earn the right to promote the Beterbiev-Browne fight. The company’s winning purse bid was $ 1,105,000.
