The boxing world is in a bit of chaos tonight, as Andy Ruiz Jr upset Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden, claiming the WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight titles.

Maybe Joshua (22-1, 21 KO) overlooked Ruiz (33-1, 22 KO). Maybe he didn’t prepare well enough. Maybe the pretty late change in opponent screwed him up. Maybe he just plain, old fashioned got beat by a hungrier, better fighter on the night.

But we can’t count out the infamous Drake Curse, which Joshua promised to break when he posted this to Twitter on March 21:

As you can imagine, the recent replies to this tweet are…fun.

Joshua can take solace in the fact that he joins some pretty high-level company here. Conor McGregor, the Toronto Raptors, Serena Williams, Kentucky basketball, Alabama football, and Juventus F.C. have all been struck down by association with Drake.

It’s clear now that Joshua was punished for his overconfidence and arrogance.
