DULAY NOW RANKED WBA NO. 8 CONTENDER

CONTROVERSIAL Filipino boxer Recky “The Terror” Dulay, who is already based in the US is now rated no. 8 super featherweight contender by the World Boxing Association (WBA).
The 23-year old Dulay (10 wins-2 losses-0 draw, 7 KOs) earned his rating for scoring a sensational 3rd round knockout against previously unbeaten Jaime Arboleda (10-0) last July 15 at the Forum in Inglewood.
“With only just one win, napasok agad natin ang ratings,” said Dulay’s new handler Rey Rodis Jr. of RED Boxing, an affiliate of the Rodis Entertainment Digital (RED) Inc. in Los Angeles, California.
Dulay’s impressive win, however, was questioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) after his former manager Yolanda Alfante claimed that she had no knowledge of the fight.
But Dulay said that he was only invited by his relatives in the US to visit them. It was only when he went to the fabled Wild Card Gym to keep himself fit when he met his new trainer Rodel “Batang Mandaue” Mayol, a former world boxing champion from Cebu.
“I have big plans for Filipino boxing (and) I cannot waste time with this little issue,” said Rodis, a son of a former boxing promoter-manager Rey Rodis Sr. and the grandson of the late boxing patron Antonio Almirante from Cagayan de Oro City.
Dulay is now already licensed to fight in the US and no longer needs to get authority from the GAB to fight abroad according to his immigration lawyer Atty. Frank Ronzio.
Dulay was supposed to fight on August 26 but Mayol said that he is not yet ready.
“But our option now is Sept. 8 or 23,” said Rodis, a graduate of BS Psychology in Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan) in CDO.
Rodis, who is now building his own boxing gym in downtown LA, owns a multi faceted corporation that includes RED Films, RED Boxing International and Shark Wear.
Current WBA super champion is Jezreel “El Invisible” Corrales (22-1-0, 8 KOs) of Panama while the top seven contenders are Jesus Andres Cuellar, Rafael Mensah, Javie Fortuna, Carlos Morales, James Tennyson, Ricardo Nunez and Alberto Machado.
The No. 9 to No. 15 contenders are Rene Alvarado, Leonardo Padilla, Alfredo Santiago, Guillaume Frenois, Kenichi Ogawa, Saul Rodriguez and Miami-based John Vincent “Mulawin” Moralde, a native of Davao City.
Meanwhile, Gervonta Davis, who stopped an unprepared Dulay in the first round on Sept. 12, 2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is now the current International Boxing Federation (IBF) super featherweight title holder while the WBC and WBO champions are Miguel Berchelt and Vasyl Lomachenko, respectively.
