FORMER Philippine boxing team member Recky “The Terror” Dulay will be making his comeback in the United States on July 14 against Panama’s Jaime “Jaimito” Arboledo at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
The fight is promoted by the Golden Boy Promotions.
Dulay (9-2-0, 6 KOs) has now been training at the Wild Card Gym under new trainer Rodel Mayol, a former WBC world light flyweight champion from Mandaue, Cebu.
“Excited na po akong lumaban muli dito sa Amerika. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa Diyos at nabigyan po ulit ako ng pagkakataon dito,” (I’m now excited to fight again in America. I thanked God for giving me another chance here) said Dulay.
Dulay last fought in the US in 2015 when he lost by a 1st round knockout to Gervonta Davis at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Malaki masyado kasi yun kalaban ko na negro (Davis) sa timbang at kulang ako ng ensayo noon,” (My opponent a negro was too big on our weight and I also lack training) said Dulay in a chat message on Facebook.
Dulay got disappointed from his second defeat and decided to take a vacation from boxing.
His former manager Yolanda Alfante then brought him to Thailand to train last year under trainer Ricky Seniego. But Dulay got homesick and went home to his wife and daughter in Cavite.
After more than a year of absence, Dulay finally came back on the ring to knockout Noel Adelmita in the 2nd round only at the Makati Square Boxing Arena last January 30.
“Mas inspired akong lumaban ngayon dahil sa anak at pamilya ko” (I’m now more inspired because of my kid and family) said Dulay, who is a native of Catarman, Northern Samar.
Dulay is now managed by film producer Rey Rodis Sr., a native of Cagayan de Oro City who is now a resident in Los Angeles.
Dulay vowed to make a good showing and impressive win on July 14 to prove that he also has what it takes to become the next Filipino world champion.
“Gagawin ko po ang lahat ng aking makakaya upang manalo” (I will do everything I can to win) said Dulay.
Arboledo, on the other hand, is still unbeaten with 10 straight wins and eight knockouts. The 22-year old Panamanian is presently the WBA Fedelatin super featherweight champion.
Arboledo, who is trained by Rigoberto Garbaldi and managed by Ernesto Marcel Jr., previously won against Jorge Mendez by retirement in the 4th round last May 18 in Panama.
