US-BOUND Romero “Ruthless” Duno has really improved a lot now.
This was the statement by Jim Claude “JC” Manangquil, chief executive officer the Sanman Boxing Promotions after watching Duno’s previous fight in the main event of the “Brawl at the Mall: The Homecoming” held June 10 at the Robinson’s Mall in General Santos City.
“He is far different fighter when he came to Sanman a couple of years ago,” said Manangquil.
“He (Duno) is a world class fighter and he showed his last victory in L.A. was not a fluke. Great victory for Duno,” he added.
Duno, who is managed by Sanman Promotions chief finance officer Dexter “Wangyu” Tan, landed a left-right combination to score a second round knockout against Jason Tinampay of Bohol last Saturday.
The 21-year old Duno now has 14 wins with 13 knockouts against one loss.
Duno successfully made his US debut last March 10 by stopping then-undefeated Mexican Christian Gonzales in the second round to capture the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental lightweight title at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
Duno, who is now under the Golden Boy Promotions is still waiting for his invitation to go back to the US anytime soon.
Four of his fellow Sanman boxers – Harmonito dela Torre, John Vincent Moralde, Mike Plania and Reymart Gaballo – are also now training in Miami, Florida under Cuban coach Moro Fernandez.
