Eddie Hearn “very interested” in re-signing Carl Frampton – anticipates talks soon

Eddie Hearn has left the door open to Carl Frampton, and anticipates that he will have talks with the Belfast star in the near future.

Earlier in the week it was confirmed that Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] had parted company from manager Barry McGuigan, trainer Shane McGuigan, and promoter Cyclone – and speculation persists that he may rejoin Hearn’s Matchroom Promotions.

‘The Jackal’ had previously been promoted by the English giant, leaving the outfit in the Summer of 2013. A tempestuous relationship with Hearn would heighten in the interim, reaching boiling point in the build up to his super bantamweight IBF-WBA unification with Scott Quigg in Manchester last year.

The frosty relationship would seem to make a reunion unlikely – and a deepening of ties with adviser Al Haymon remains the likely next move – but the promotional might of Matchroom could convince Frampton to return to the Sky Sports-affiliated company.

Hearn has, on numerous occasions, denied that he has had talks with 30 year old Frampton – but believes that there will be contact in the future.

Both Frampton and Hearn have been in Las Vegas over the weekend for the Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor, but the Essex promoter doesn’t want to push a delicate issue.

Hearn told IFL TV that “I haven’t had any conversations with him.”

“It looks like a clean split in terms of promotion and management and training.”

“It must be extremely sensitive and I don’t think he really wants to talk about it at the moment.”

The 38 year old is keen to work with the Tiger’s Bay featherweight, and outlined how “I think, when the time is right, we’ll have a conversation with Carl Frampton and, if the road is clear, I would be very interested in working with Carl Frampton again.”

“I believe I can do a great job with him. Whether he has any interest in working with us, I don’t know.”

“I think that he’s bright enough to know that we can do a great job for him.”

“My strategy is: ‘Carl, we’re here’ – and I’m sure he knows that – ‘when you’re talking to people, we would like to be one of them people.’”
