Eddie Hearn has given his most definite indication yet that he will seek to sign Carl Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] – and has promised ‘The Jackal’ the big fights he has recently craved

The Belfast featherweight has split from manager Barry McGuigan and promoter Cyclone and speculation is rife over where ‘The Jackal’ will end up.

The front-runner looks to be a deepening of ties with his U.S. adviser Al Haymon, the powerhouse behind the Premier Boxing Champions series in America. Many feel that Frampton will opt for this, box mainly Stateside, and operate of a fight-to-fight basis with British promoters when he fights at home.

Matchroom boss Hearn though is keen to snap up the two-weight world champion. Indeed he believes he can be the promoter to both bring Leo Santa Cruz to Belfast and secure Frampton and dream fight at the Windsor Park football stadium – two things which the Tiger’s Bay man had desperately wanted for this past Summer.

Frampton fought for Matchroom earlier in his career before leaving in the wake of his knockout European super bantamweight title win over Kiko Martinez in early 2013.

The reason behind this split was moreso due to differences between McGuigan and Hearn, however Frampton would later express his severe distaste for the Essex promoter in the build-up to his super bantamweight IBF-WBA unification with Matchroom’s Scott Quigg in Manchester last year.

Hearn is confident that he will get to state his case to Frampton and told Irish boxing media at the Ryan Burnett v Zhanat Zhakiyanov press conference that “I’m guessing he’s going to talk to everyone and I want to be one of those people he talks to.”

“I am one hundred percent sure I will talk to Carl Frampton because, if he’s going to talk to promoters, he has to talk to me.”

It has been reported by the Irish News that Frampton is still under contract with Cyclone, but Hearn is none the wiser. The 38 year old admitted that I don’t know the situation. If he’s a free agent, I want to sign him. That’s all I can tell you and I can deliver for him.”

Outlining his provisional plans, Hearn described how “I believe he’s a box-office fighter. I never got the opportunity to finish the job when I was with him last time and I want to finish the job this time.”

“I can bring Leo Santa Cruz here, I can do Windsor Park, I can do all those things, but we’ll see.”

“Whether he’ll want to sign with me, I don’t know the answer to that. He may think ‘f*ck off, I ain’t signing with Eddie Hearn.’”

“But I tell you what, it would be one hell of a story! Don’t rule it out.”
