Eddie Hearn talks Tony Bellew vs. David Haye, future plans for Matchroom fighters

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn sat down with The Ring recently to discuss the future of his stacked stable, which includes Tony Bellew, Anthony Joshua, and Lee Selby. Pleasingly, Hearn actually named names and seems to have solid plans for many of his charges; the whole thing’s worth a read, but here are the CliffsNotes for the impatient among you.

• Ricky Burns, who stopped Michele Di Rocco for the WBA super lightweight title, wants another crack at Terence Crawford but is in preliminary talks with both Eduard Troyanovsky and Rances Barthelemy, the latter of whom recently dropped his lightweight title to move to 140.
• Bellew vs. Haye is possible for next spring provided Haye can make 210 pounds, fourteen pounds lighter than when he knocked out Arnold Gjergjaj last month. Before then, he has either WBC Champion-in-Recess Grigory Drozd or mandatory challenger Mairis Briedis to deal with. It’s worth noting that Bellew refuses to fight in Russia due to PED concerns.
• Joshua’s next title defense should he get past Dominic Breazeale will be on November 5th or 12th. Hearn “badly want[s]” a fight between Joshua and Tyson Fury, but expects either a voluntary defense or unification bout before pitting Joshua against Joseph Parker in spring.
• Lee Selby is looking to fight again this summer, then face Josh Warrington in fall. He also has his eye on the upcoming fight between Leo Santa Cruz and Carl Frampton.
• Jamie McDonnell was down to face Guillermo Rigondeaux before the latter elected to face James Dickens.
• Hearn is looking to pit Kal Yafai against either Kohei Kono or McJoe Arroyo in October.

Obviously, things aren’t going to work out well enough to produce all of these fights, but it’s a nice thought.
