With Kal Yafai coming off of a successful U.S. debut this past Saturday in Fresno, where he stopped David Carmona on ESPN+, promoter Eddie Hearn is weighing the options for the 28-year-old WBA “world” super flyweight titleholder.
“Kal made a big statement over here and I can see him staying in the States for his next fight. He is ready for the challenge of unification but we also really like the Chocolatito fight and have already opened talks with his team. There’s exciting times ahead Kal, for sure.”
Yafai (24-0, 15 KO) would be in for a new challenge against either of them on paper. Ancajas is a very good fighter, a smooth southpaw who would present a much different look than the orthodox brawler Carmona, and as I said yesterday, I don’t count out Gonzalez just yet as a viable contender just because he lost to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. Yafai is a totally different style of fighter than Srisaket, and Gonzalez could well match up better with the Brit.
Who would you like to see Yafai face, and will you be disappointed if it’s Gonzalez instead of Ancajas?
