Eddy Reynoso who`s the key element of Saul “Canelo” Álvarez’s success, is confident of Lone Star triumph this Saturday evening.
Eddy himself has had to fight hard for what he has gained and retained. At just 18 years old, he emigrated to the United States to seek a better life, but his stay in Riverside, in southern California, was very short-lived, as he did not find the opportunities he needed to get ahead.
Undeterred and unfazed by adversity, Eddy chose to return to Guadalajara, where he, alongside his father, José “Chepo” Reynoso, opened a gym. Time, vision, and effort have made Eddy a high-caliber trainer who has worked with more than 10 world champions and dozens of emerging prospects.
This Saturday, “Canelo” Álvarez will have an exacting fight against Englishman Callum Smith, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, promoted by Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Boxing will be broadcast on DAZN.
Eddy resolutely commented:
“The quality of Saúl is beyond question. Smith has been pushing hard in the last two years, and he has won some belts. Yet…he has not really faced fighters of Saúl’s ability. Nevertheless, he is a guy who has a lot of technique, strong, plus brave, so we hope it’s going to be a very good fight. We were working with a fighter similar and even stronger than he called Frank Sánchez, who`s more or less the same height as Smith, he is a heavyweight, who possesses a lot of boxing technique.
“It’s no secret, we can’t really fight Callum from a distance. Rather, we`re focusing on the short-range. Saul is very good at that and in almost all his career he has faced these kinds of challenges and we have done well. He has capably and brilliantly handled these kinds of situations very well indeed and hopefully Saturday will be the same.”
