Bellator MMA bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas will rematch Joe Warren, who briefly dethroned him as champion in 2014, in the main event of Bellator 166.
Having re-captured the Bellator MMA bantamweight belt, Eduardo Dantas’ next fight will be against the man he lost the belt to back in 2014. Bellator officials told The Dallas Morning News (H/T The MMA Report) that Dantas will headline Bellator 166 against none other than Joe Warren. The card will take place in Thackerville, Oklahoma on Friday, December 2nd.
Dantas (18-4) lost by unanimous decision to Warren in the Bellator 128 main event, which stands to date as his only loss under the Bellator banner. The Nova Uniao fighter defeated Mike Richman in May 2015, then after multiple postponements of his title fight rematch vs. Marcos Galvao, the 27-year-old dominated Galvao by decision in June 2016, to win back the Bellator 135 lbs crown.
Warren (14-5) immediately lost his title to Marcos Galvao in March 2015, as Galvao forced Warren to verbally submit to a painful kneebar. “The Baddest Man on the Planet” bounced back by beating LC Davis later that September. The 39-year-old was viciously choked out by Darrion Caldwell this past March, but he was able to submit Sirwan Kakai to earn himself another title shot. It also probably helped that Caldwell suffered a shock loss to Joe Taimanglo, who missed weight for that fight, so Warren was in prime position to get his rematch.
Also announced for Bellator 166 is featherweight prospect AJ McKee (5-0) against Emmanuel Sanchez (13-3).
There will be two Bellator shows on back-to-back nights. At Bellator 167 on Saturday, December 3rd, also in Thackerville, Oklahoma, former featherweight champion Pat Curran will take on Brazil’s John Teixeira. More fights for both events will be revealed shortly.
