Efrain Escudero is no stranger to tournaments. And he’ll be involved in a big one beginning next week.
The Ultimate Fighter 8 lightweight winner will replace Rashid Magomedov to take on Jason Highat PFL 2 on June 21 in Chicago, sources told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani on Thursday. Magomedov is out with an undisclosed injury, sources said. Escudero is now a part of PFL’s lightweight season, with a chance to go on and win $1 million.
Escudero (29-13) is coming off a first-round submission victory over Jorge Lopez at Lux Fight League in Mexico City in February. The Mexico native is an 11-fight UFC veteran. Escudero, 32, has won five of his last seven bouts.
High (21-6) has not fought since beating Caros Fodor by unanimous decision in June 2017 on the first Professional Fighters League. The UFC veteran has won three of four fights. High, 36, has fought for such promotions as Strikeforce, World Series of Fighting, Dream and Affliction.
PFL 2 is headlined by another lightweight season bout between Will Brooks and Luiz Firmino. Also on the card, Kayla Harrison makes her MMA debut against Brittney Elkin.
