Leonard Ellerbe fields questions from reporters about this weekend’s PPV fight between Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner, specifically focusing on how important it is for Broner’s career to come through in this outing. Check out some excerpts of what he had to say…

Ellerbe on if he thinks Broner will be bothered if he beats Pacquiao and still doesn’t get the credit:

“[Broner’s] performance will speak for itself. Getting the victory over Manny Pacquiao, it gets no better than that. What can anybody say? Realistically, what can anybody say? When you go in there and beat a legend like that, what are they gonna say?…

“I think for Adrien the timing couldn’t be better. You know, coming off of the Vargas fight, which I thought he fought very well the second half of the fight. And I think that he picked up off of that. You know, and again, if you can’t be focused and can’t get prepared for a guy like Manny Pacquiao then what are we talking about?!

“It’s must-win for both guys for where they’re trying to go, and continue to go in their careers….Adrien wants to be the guy, the biggest name in the sport, and with a victory of Manny Pacquiao that validates that.”

On if there’s added pressure on Broner because he’s doing it ‘for the hood’:

“What I envision is that when a guy can erase everything bad that has happened in his career off of just one victory, there you go.”

On Broner being able to still land marquee fights even with another loss here:

“It’s a must-win for either guy to go to where they’re trying to go. Coming off of a loss you can’t command these large paydays. You might get certain fights, but it’s like with a win you go to a whole ‘nother level…I guarantee you, a win over Manny Pacquiao Saturday night, Errol Spence is gonna want to fight him, Danny Garcia’s gonna want to fight him, Shawn Porter’s gonna want the rematch, Keith Thurman — all those guys are gonna be calling him out.”
