Erick Silva could be heading to a different promotion in 2018.
Silva’s contract with the UFC expired following his December bout with Jordan Mein. The longtime Octagon veteran is currently in talks with the UFC and other promotions to set his next move in the sport, MMA Fighting has learned.
“The Tiger” lost back-to-back fights in 2017 against Mein and Yancy Medeiros. Silva has only won in one of his last five appearances, defeating Luan Chagas at UFC Fight Night 95 in Brasilia, Brazil, in Sept. 2016.
Silva had an impressive start in the UFC, being put in a position as a future contender in the welterweight division right off the bat, but racked up a 7-8 record in the Octagon in a little over than six years.
All of Silva’s UFC victories came by way of stoppage, finishing the likes of Josh Koscheck, Jason High and Charlie Brenneman.
